Time 1h5m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 25

Parchment paper
1 cup ricotta, drained
1 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano, a couple of handfuls
1/2 pound fresh mozzarella, small dice
A handful of chopped flat-leaf parsley, a couple of tablespoons
1 egg yolk, beaten
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
Few grinds black pepper
1 teaspoon Essence, recipe follows
1/2 pound thinly sliced prosciutto, about 10 slices
6 sheets phyllo dough, from frozen foods aisle of your market
1/2 stick melted butter
Black olives, for eyes
Red and green bell peppers, to cut into Egyptian shapes to decorate the mummy
1 jar, 16 to 18 ounces, roasted red peppers, drained
6 basil leaves
1 small clove garlic
2 1/2 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon dried leaf oregano
1 tablespoon dried thyme

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Place parchment paper on baking sheet.
  • Mix together cheeses, parsley, egg yolk, garlic, pepper and Essence.
  • Lay out the prosciutto on a flat surface so it overlaps slightly. It should create a surface that is about 12 to 13 inches long.
  • Place the cheese mixture in the center of the prosciutto and roughly shape into a mummy form.
  • Wrap the prosciutto around the cheese mixture sealing it in completely and reshape the mixture to look like a mummy with a rounded head and the body tapering at the bottom.
  • Place a sheet of phyllo on a work surface, brush with melted butter, repeat with 2 more sheets, placing them on top of one another. Do not brush top sheet with butter.
  • Lay the prosciutto wrapped cheese in the center of the phyllo and wrap the phyllo around the "mummy".
  • Butter the outside of the phyllo and then reshape into the mummy shape.
  • Place 1 of the remaining sheets of phyllo on the parchment lined baking sheet, brush with melted butter, repeat with the remaining 2 sheets, placing them on top of one another.
  • Carefully slice the phyllo into 1/2-inch wide strips horizontally. Lay the wrapped mummy in the center of the sliced strips and wrap the sliced pieces around the mummy so it looks like bandages. Gently brush the top with butter.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown on the outside.
  • When the mummy is just a few minutes from coming out of the oven, place drained roasted red peppers, basil leaves, and garlic in the food processor and pulse grind into a pepper puree. Transfer to a small serving bowl.
  • Decorate the mummy with black olives and pepper shapes and transfer him to his "coffin" with 2 wide, long, offset spatulas.
  • Serve with red pepper puree.
  • Combine all ingredients thoroughly and store in an airtight jar or container.

HOT DOG MUMMIES

Hot Dog Mummies image

Made with store-bought crescent dough, these mummy dogs will be a hit at dinner or a Halloween party. The dough is very forgiving and easy to wrap, and the best part is it doesn't need to be perfect-these are ancient mummies after all.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 30m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

One 8-ounce tube crescent dough
8 bun-length hot dogs
1 slice white American cheese
Ketchup and/or mustard

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Open the crescent dough tube and unroll the dough onto a work surface. Pinch together the seams to create a rectangle. Cut the dough lengthwise into 8 long strips.
  • Take 1 hot dog and 1 strip of the dough and wind the dough around the hot dog while pulling gently to stretch the dough. Crisscross the dough every so often so it looks like mummy wrappings. Near the end of the hot dog, leave a narrow strip of hot dog exposed so you can add eyes after baking. Place the wrapped dog on the prepared baking sheet and repeat with remaining dough and hot dogs. Bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
  • While hot dogs bake, use the narrow end of a wide piping tip to punch out 16 small rounds of cheese for the mummies' eyes.
  • Remove the hot dogs from oven. Using a toothpick, smear some ketchup on one side of each cheese round and "glue" it to the open area of the hot dog to create 2 eyes. Using the same toothpick, put a dab of ketchup or mustard in the center of each eye to create a pupil.

HALLOWEEN OREO® MUMMIES

Halloween Oreo® Mummies image

Turn chocolate covered Oreo® cookies into these adorable little mummy cookies that are just spooky enough for Halloween without being too scary for little ones. They are great for a Halloween party, as school Halloween treats, or as a festive "spooky month" snack.

Provided by fabeveryday

Categories     Sandwich Cookies

Time 1h3m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 3

8 ounces white confectioners' coating, cut into pieces
16 chocolate sandwich cookies (such as Oreo®)
32 mini candy eyeballs

Steps:

  • Melt candy melts in a microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl in 15-second intervals, stirring after each interval, 1 to 3 minutes. Scoop a heaping tablespoon into a resealable plastic bag and set aside.
  • Working 1 at a time, use a butter knife to spread the candy melt over the top and around the sides of each cookie. Place on wax paper.
  • Seal the resealable plastic bag and snip off 1 of the corners with scissors. Pipe stripes over the top of the cookies in a back-and-forth pattern. It's okay if the stripes are uneven or at different angles.
  • Before the stripes dry, stick two candy eyeballs on the top of each cookie.
  • Allow the candy coating to dry and harden before serving (you can expedite the hardening process by placing the wax paper and cookies into the refrigerator for a few minutes).

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients whenever possible. This will give your recipes the best flavor and texture.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment. Try new ingredients and flavor combinations to create your own unique dishes.
  • Read recipes carefully before you start cooking. This will help you avoid mistakes and ensure that your dish turns out the way you want it to.
  • Mise en place. This French term means "to put in place." It refers to the practice of preparing all of your ingredients before you start cooking. This will help you stay organized and avoid scrambling around for ingredients while you're cooking.
  • Use the right tools for the job. Having the right tools will make cooking much easier and more enjoyable. Some essential tools include a good set of knives, a cutting board, a mixing bowl, a measuring cup, and a measuring spoon.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan. When you're cooking meat or vegetables, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent them from cooking evenly.
  • Season your food to taste. Don't be afraid to add salt, pepper, and other spices to your dishes. Seasoning is what brings out the flavor of the food.
  • Don't overcook your food. Overcooked food is tough and dry. Cook your food until it is just done, but not overcooked.
  • Let your food rest before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the food, making it more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Cooking is a great way to express yourself creatively and to share your love of food with others. With a little practice, you can master the basics of cooking and start creating your own delicious dishes. So what are you waiting for? Get cooking!
