TOASTY DEVILED HAM SANDWICHES

Toasty Deviled Ham Sandwiches image

My step-mom-in-law made these broiled, open-faced sandwiches once and although I had never eaten deviled ham before, nor had I ever had any desire to, they were yummy. It's easy enough and good enough to impress company for a lunch or brunch. Be creative with variations of ingredients and toppings. Mmm!

Provided by Gina Farina

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 15m

Yield 2 halves, 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (4 1/4 ounce) can deviled ham (like Underwood brand)
1 tablespoon dill relish, drained (more or less to taste)
1/4 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
2 slices bread (left-over hamburger buns or kaiser rolls work great)
2 slices garden-ripe tomatoes
1/4 cup Velveeta cheese, cubed very small

Steps:

  • Mix the first 3 ingredients together.
  • Spread onto 2 slices of bread.
  • Pop into the broiler for just a few minutes, watching to make sure they don't burn.

  • Serve hot with some tomato soup and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh, flavorful ingredients will make a big difference in the taste of your deviled ham and egg sandwich. Look for high-quality ham, eggs, and bread.
  • Don't overcook the eggs: Overcooked eggs will be tough and rubbery. Cook them until they are just set, with a slightly runny yolk.
  • Mash the yolks until they are smooth: Use a fork or a potato masher to mash the yolks until they are completely smooth. This will help create a creamy, spreadable filling.
  • Add your favorite seasonings: Feel free to add your favorite seasonings to the deviled ham filling. Some popular options include salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  • Spread the filling evenly on the bread: When you're assembling the sandwich, be sure to spread the filling evenly on both slices of bread. This will help ensure that every bite is flavorful.

Conclusion:

The deviled ham and egg sandwich is a classic for a reason. It's a simple, yet delicious sandwich that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. With its creamy, flavorful filling and soft, fluffy bread, it's sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
