For ZWT6. From allbritishfood.com Note: Aug. 17th, 2011 -- We loved this dish. With the 2- 2 1/2 hours of cooking the meat is very tender and the gravy this makes is so delicious, used a slice of bread to soak up the extra gravy on plate.

My father's favourite. Super easy slow cooker dish. Really good with sour cream mashed potatoes and green beans.

Time 9h5m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 kg diced beef
1/3 cup tomato sauce
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons grainy mustard
2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons sherry wine (optional)
2 teaspoons salt
3 teaspoons gravy, powder (pepper flavour is good)

Steps:

  • Put the beef in the slow cooker (no need to brown).
  • Mix together the tomato sauce, vinegar, worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, lemon juice, sherry (if using) and salt and pour the mixture over the beef and stir to combine.
  • Cook on high for 4-5 hours or on low for 8-9 hours.
  • Stir through the gravy powder and cook on high four a few minutes more.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef. Brisket, chuck roast, and short ribs are all good choices for deviled beef. These cuts are tough and have a lot of connective tissue, which breaks down during cooking and makes the meat tender and flavorful.
  • Brown the meat well. Browning the meat before braising it helps to develop flavor and color. Be sure to brown the meat in a hot skillet over medium-high heat until it is well browned on all sides.
  • Use a flavorful braising liquid. The braising liquid is what gives deviled beef its flavor, so it is important to use a liquid that is full of flavor. Good options include beef broth, red wine, dark beer, or a combination of these liquids.
  • Add vegetables and herbs to the braising liquid. Vegetables and herbs add flavor and depth to the braising liquid. Common additions include onions, carrots, celery, garlic, thyme, and bay leaves.
  • Cook the beef until it is fall-apart tender. Deviled beef should be cooked until it is fall-apart tender, which usually takes at least 2 hours. The meat is done when it can be easily shredded with a fork.
  • Serve deviled beef with your favorite sides. Mashed potatoes, egg noodles, and roasted vegetables are all good choices for serving with deviled beef.

Conclusion:

Deviled beef is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a special occasion or a weeknight meal. With a little planning and preparation, you can create a deviled beef dish that will impress your family and friends. So next time you are looking for a hearty and flavorful meal, give deviled beef a try. You won't be disappointed.
