DR. PAT'S HOT TODDY COLD REMEDY

Okay, so our family doctor suggested this instead of prescription cough syrup for relieving the cold symptoms of the ADULTS in our family (he of course, did NOT suggest it as a CURE). He says the whisky helps you sleep while the honey and lemon soothe your throat. I'm pretty sure it works, but in the end we really don't care because we love this warm drink when we aren't feeling well. Even sometimes when we are feeling well! UPDATE: Our beloved Dr. Pat passed away November 19,2010 at the age of 59 from Melanoma so now this recipe with all of it's great reviews is even more special to our family. We will miss you forever Pat!!!

Tips:

  • Choose the right whiskey: Use a whiskey that is at least 80 proof, as this will help to extract the medicinal benefits from the honey and lemon. Some good options include bourbon, rye, or Irish whiskey.
  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh lemon juice and honey are essential for making a good hot toddy. Avoid using bottled lemon juice or granulated sugar, as these will not provide the same flavor or health benefits.
  • Heat the whiskey gently: Do not boil the whiskey, as this will evaporate the alcohol and ruin the flavor. Instead, heat it gently over low heat until it is just simmering.
  • Add the honey and lemon juice: Once the whiskey is heated, remove it from the heat and stir in the honey and lemon juice. Be sure to dissolve the honey completely.
  • Serve hot: Serve the hot toddy immediately, while it is still hot.

Conclusion:

The hot toddy is a classic cold and flu remedy that can help to relieve symptoms such as sore throat, cough, and congestion. It is also a delicious and comforting drink that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. If you are looking for a natural way to relieve your cold or flu symptoms, give the hot toddy a try.
