- 3. Mix in pecans.
- 4. Press the mixture lightly into an ungreased 9 x 13 inch baking dish building up a slight edge.
- 5. Bake 10 minutes.
- 6. Take the pan out of the oven and carefully arrange apple slices on the warm crust.
- 7. Mix sugar, cinnamon and 1/4 tsp. salt. Sprinkle this over the apples.
- 8. Blend sour cream, egg and 1/4 tsp. salt together.
- 9. Drizzle over the apples then spread lightly with a spoon to cover.
- 10. Bake for 25 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Do not over bake.
- 11. You can serve this warm but I prefer to let it stand for 2 hours so the topping isn't so runny.
Tips:
- Use a variety of apples. This will give your kuchen a more complex flavor and texture. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn apples.
- Peel and slice the apples thinly. This will help them cook evenly.
- Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can make the kuchen tough.
- Bake the kuchen until the crust is golden brown and the apples are soft.
- Serve the kuchen warm or at room temperature. It can be topped with whipped cream, ice cream, or a dollop of sour cream.

Apple kuchen is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its simple ingredients and classic flavor, it is sure to be a hit with everyone at your table. So next time you are looking for a sweet treat, give this apple kuchen recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
