Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: For this recipe, chuck roast or stew meat are good options. These cuts are tough but become tender when cooked slowly in the crock pot.
  • Brown the beef before cooking: Browning the beef adds flavor and helps to keep it moist. You can brown the beef in a skillet over medium-high heat or in the crock pot on the sauté setting.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: This recipe calls for carrots, celery, and onions, but you can also add other vegetables such as potatoes, parsnips, or turnips.
  • Add a flavorful liquid: Beef broth, water, or even red wine can be used as the liquid in this recipe. The liquid will help to flavor the beef and vegetables.
  • Cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours: The cooking time will depend on the size of the beef cubes and the type of crock pot you are using. Check the beef after the minimum cooking time to make sure it is tender.
