Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 lbs chuck roast
1 (15 ounce) can beef broth
1 (1 1/4 ounce) envelope onion soup mix
1/4 cup coffee (optional)
2 garlic cloves (optional)
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Rinse the roast and sprinkle it with salt and pepper to taste. I often skip the salt, since the broth and soup mix are salty already.
  • Put the roast into your crock pot, and pour the broth and coffee (if using) over the roast.
  • Add the soup mix and garlic (if using)into the liquid and stir a bit. Don't worry about getting the soup mix to dissolve. The crock pot does all the work!
  • Cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours, slice
  • the meat, and serve hot on hoagie rolls with your favorite cheese (I prefer provolone or swiss). These are great with sauteed onions (can add bell pepper too). The broth makes delicious au jus for dipping your sandwiches.

EASY CROCK POT FRENCH DIP

Now, this is an easy dinner recipe. We put the chuck roast in the slow cooker and 8 hours later came back to perfectly cooked meat that was tender and falling apart. Beer, mixed with the natural flavors from the roast, gives the natural broth a deep, robust flavor. Fresh onion and garlic cook down to almost nothing but lots of...

Time 8h10m

Number Of Ingredients 5

3-4 lb beef round tip roast or chuck roast
1 can(s) beer, your favorite bottled beer or beef broth
1 pkg dry onion soup mix
2 clove garlic, add right to the pot whole without skin
1 large onion, sliced 1/2 inch size, add to pot

Steps:

  • 1. Trim fat from roast. Put onions in the Crock Pot. Put roast in Crock Pot over the onions. Sprinkle with soup mix. Pour beer over top. Cook on low for about 8 hours.
  • 2. Lift roast out of Crock Pot and shred meat.
  • 3. Make sandwiches on hard roll or hoagie bun.
  • 4. Juice makes an excellent dip.
  • 5. Feel free to exchange the beer for low salt beef broth or beef stock. You may also enjoy cutting up an onion into onion rings and place on top of beef. When beef is done serve the roast with onion rings on the sub roll.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Chuck roast or topside roast are both good choices for French dip sandwiches. They are relatively inexpensive and have a good amount of marbling, which will help keep the meat moist during cooking.
  • Brown the beef before cooking: Browning the beef before cooking will help to develop its flavor and give it a nice crust. You can brown the beef in a skillet over medium-high heat, or you can use the browning function on your slow cooker.
  • Use a good quality au jus mix: The au jus is what really makes French dip sandwiches special. You can use a store-bought au jus mix, or you can make your own. If you are making your own, be sure to use a good quality beef broth and add some herbs and spices to taste.
  • Cook the beef on low for 8-10 hours: This will allow the beef to become very tender and fall apart easily. If you are short on time, you can cook the beef on high for 4-6 hours, but it will not be as tender.
  • Serve the beef on hoagie rolls with your favorite toppings: Some popular toppings for French dip sandwiches include melted cheese, caramelized onions, and horseradish sauce.

Conclusion:

French dip sandwiches are a classic comfort food that is perfect for a casual meal. They are easy to make in a slow cooker, and they are always a hit with family and friends. With a little planning, you can have a delicious French dip sandwich dinner on the table in no time.
