Time 2m

Yield 1

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 egg
1/2 cup room temperature water
Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Microwave the mug: Put the mug in the microwave and microwave on HIGH power for 30 seconds. NOTE: Start out microwaving the egg for only 30 seconds. Take out the mug, remove the plate or plastic wrap, and peek inside; you want the whites to be opaque, and the yolk to be still on the runny side. If the whites are still clear, return the cover in place and put the mug back in the microwave for another 10 to 60 seconds. To prevent explosions, do not microwave the egg longer than 30 seconds at a time, and don't microwave longer than a total of 1 1/2 minutes. How long it takes to cook the egg to your liking depends primarily on the wattage of your microwave. You'll need to play around a bit. The time can vary a lot!

Yield Makes 3 to 4

Number Of Ingredients 1

3 or 4 large eggs

Steps:

  • In a 12-inch straight-sided skillet, heat 2 inches water over medium until bubbles cover the bottom and sides of pan. Crack each large egg into a separate small bowl (do not use eggs with broken yolks). When a few bubbles have broken the surface of the water, gently pour each egg into the pan, leaving room between them.
  • Cook eggs, undisturbed, until white is just set and yolk is still runny, 3 to 4 minutes. Use a rubber spatula to gently release eggs from the bottom of pan, if necessary.
  • Using a slotted spoon, remove eggs from water. If using immediately, blot the bottom of the spoon on a paper towel to remove excess water before serving.

2 large eggs
Kosher salt (to taste)
Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Fill a microwave-safe coffee cup, glass, or microwave-safe liquid measuring cup with 1/2 cup of cold tap water.

Tips:

  • Use fresh eggs: Fresh eggs are essential for successful microwave poaching. Older eggs may not hold their shape as well and are more likely to break during cooking.
  • Choose the right container: A microwave-safe bowl or ramekin with a wide bottom and straight sides is ideal for poaching eggs in the microwave. Avoid using containers with narrow bottoms or curved sides, as these can cause the eggs to cook unevenly.
  • Add a little water: Adding a small amount of water to the bottom of the bowl or ramekin helps to create steam, which helps the eggs to cook evenly. About 1/4 cup of water is usually sufficient.
  • Season the eggs: Before cooking, season the eggs with salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings. This will help to enhance the flavor of the eggs.
  • Cover the bowl or ramekin: Covering the bowl or ramekin with a microwave-safe plate or lid helps to trap the steam and cook the eggs more evenly. If you don't have a lid, you can use plastic wrap, but be sure to poke a few holes in the top to allow steam to escape.
  • Cook the eggs for the correct amount of time: The cooking time for microwave-poached eggs will vary depending on the power of your microwave and the number of eggs you are cooking. Start with a cooking time of 30 seconds per egg and then adjust as needed. The eggs are done when the whites are set and the yolks are still runny.

Conclusion:

Microwave poaching is a quick and easy way to cook eggs. By following these tips, you can ensure that your microwave-poached eggs turn out perfectly every time. Serve them on toast, with a side of roasted vegetables, or in a salad for a delicious and nutritious meal.
