QUICK HOMEMADE BREADSTICKS RECIPE (35 MINUTES)

Quick Homemade Breadsticks Recipe (35 Minutes) image

This Quick Homemade Breadsticks Recipe only takes 35 minutes! They are so easy and go perfect with soups, pastas, and salads!

Provided by Camille Beckstrand

Categories     Side Dish

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup warm water*
2½ teaspoons yeast
3 Tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
¼ cup vegetable oil (or canola oil)
3 cups all-purpose flour ((start with 2 1/2 cups and add more as needed))
2 Tablespoons butter (melted)
garlic salt (optional topping)
powdered parmesan cheese (optional topping)
Italian seasoning (optional topping)

  • Roll out into a 10x12" rectangle.
  • Cut into strips about 3/4" - 1" wide.
  • Twist each strip once or twice and lay out on a greased baking sheet (I sprayed mine with non-stick cooking spray).
  • Let breadsticks rise for 20 minutes (longer if you can, but at least 20 minutes).
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 10-15 minutes.
  • When the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush breadsticks with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic salt, Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.

Tips:

  • Activate the yeast properly: Proof the yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar before adding it to the dough. This will ensure that the yeast is active and will help the breadsticks rise properly.
  • Knead the dough well: Kneading the dough develops the gluten, which gives the breadsticks their chewy texture. Knead the dough for at least 5 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place: The dough needs time to rise in order to double in size. Place the dough in a warm place, such as a sunny window or a turned-off oven with the light on, for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Shape the breadsticks: Once the dough has risen, divide it into equal pieces. Roll each piece of dough into a long, thin rope. You can also use a breadstick maker to shape the dough.
  • Bake the breadsticks at a high temperature: Baking the breadsticks at a high temperature will help them to brown and crisp up. Bake the breadsticks for 10-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  • Serve the breadsticks warm: Breadsticks are best served warm. You can serve them with your favorite dipping sauce, such as marinara sauce, pesto, or olive oil.

Conclusion:

Breadsticks are a delicious and easy-to-make addition to any meal. They can be served as an appetizer, a side dish, or even as a main course. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make homemade breadsticks that are sure to impress your family and friends.
