Time 1h10m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 1/2 lb ground beef
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/4-1/2 c finely chopped onion
1 tsp seasoning salt (mrs. dash's)
1 c small bread cubes
2 beef bouillon cubes, dissolved in 1 cup boiling water
dash(es) pepper
SAUCE
3 Tbsp brown sugar
1/2 c ketchup
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp dry mustard

Steps:

  • 1. Add 1/2 cup bouillon with bread cubes and add egg. Let stand 5 minutes or until croutons are softened; beat until light and fluffy.
  • 2. Add meat, onion, salt and pepper.
  • 3. Shape into a loaf and put in loaf pan.
  • 4. Rough the top of the meat with a fork and cover with the sauce ingredients which have been combined.
  • 5. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ground meat: A combination of ground beef and ground pork is a classic choice for meatloaf, but you can also use all beef, all pork, or a mixture of different meats, such as lamb or veal.
  • Season the meatloaf well: Use a generous amount of salt and pepper, as well as other spices and herbs, such as garlic, onion, paprika, and cumin.
  • Add moisture to the meatloaf: This can be done with eggs, milk, bread crumbs, or oatmeal.
  • Mix the meatloaf thoroughly: But don't overmix it, or the meatloaf will be tough.
  • Shape the meatloaf into a loaf: You can use a loaf pan or a free-form shape.
  • Bake the meatloaf at a high temperature initially: This will help to brown the meatloaf and keep it moist.
  • Reduce the temperature and continue baking: This will help to cook the meatloaf through without drying it out.
  • Let the meatloaf rest before slicing: This will help the meatloaf to hold its shape and make it easier to slice.

Conclusion:

Meatloaf is a classic comfort food that is easy to make and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With a few simple tips, you can make a delicious and moist meatloaf that will be the star of your next meal. So next time you're looking for a hearty and satisfying dish, give meatloaf a try. You won't be disappointed.
