This is good without any topping, but I have tried a variety of things on the top: melted chocolate frosting, powdered sugar or glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.

Tips:

  • Use quality ingredients: This means using real butter, high-quality cocoa powder, and fresh eggs. These ingredients will make a big difference in the final flavor of the cake.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy: This will help incorporate air into the batter, which will make the cake lighter and more tender.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition: This will help prevent the batter from curdling.
  • Be careful not to overmix the batter: Overmixing can make the cake tough.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven: This will help ensure that the cake bakes evenly.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it: This will help prevent the frosting from melting.
