This recipe has fewer calories because of the ground turkey and amazing flavor! It is a little spicy, but our family enjoys it this way. Because it has so much flavor, you cannot even tell it's not ground beef. It tastes great as a topping on baked potatoes as well as tacos. Enjoy!

FANTASTIC TACO CASSEROLE!

Fantastic Taco Casserole! image

I think this casserole tastes even better than a real taco, it is SO DELICIOUS! ...if you love tacos, then you will love this casserole! My recipe#76616 works great for this recipe. ALL ingredients can be adjusted to suit taste. It is best to prepare this casserole and bake right away as the broken tacos will get too soggy.

2 (4 ounce) cans diced green chilies
1 (14 ounce) sliced ripe olives, drained and divided (can use green or black()
1 (1 1/4 ounce) package taco seasoning mix
1 (4 1/2 ounce) package taco shells or 1 (4 1/2 ounce) package white corn tortillas, broken into pieces

  • Layer HALF of broken shells on bottom of greased 13x9 baking pan; cover with HALF of meat sauce, then sprinkle with 2 cups (or to taste) cheddar cheese.

  • Bake for 20 minutes or until bubbly, and cheese is melted.
  • After baking, sprinkle with remaining olives, tomatoes and green onions.
  • **NOTE** I sometimes drizzle bottled salsa sauce (mild or spicy) on top of the ground beef and then on top before baking.

HEARTY TURKEY TACOS RECIPE BY TASTY

Hearty Turkey Tacos Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: tomatillo, jalapeño, garlic, medium white onion, fresh cilantro, lime, kosher salt, olive oil, ground turkey, medium white onion, kosher salt, McCormick® Hearty Spice Blend, chili powder, corn tortilla, crumbled cotija cheese, radish, fresh cilantro, Lime wedge

Provided by Tasty

Categories     Dinner

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 18

1 lb tomatillo, husks removed
1 jalapeño, seeded
3 cloves garlic
½ medium white onion
½ bunch fresh cilantro
1 lime, juiced
kosher salt, to taste
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 lb ground turkey
½ medium white onion, diced
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon McCormick® Hearty Spice Blend
¼ teaspoon chili powder
corn tortilla
4 tablespoons crumbled cotija cheese
radish, thinly sliced
fresh cilantro, chopped
Lime wedge

Steps:

  • Make the tomatillo salsa: Place the tomatillos in a medium saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer until the tomatillos have turned darker green in color and some of the skins have started to burst. Remove from the water and set aside to cool.
  • In a food processor, combine the jalapeño, garlic, onion, cilantro and cooled tomatillos. Blend until the cilantro and onion have broken down, but you can still see the tomatillo seeds. Be careful not to overblend. Season with the lime juice and salt.
  • Make the turkey filling: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until starting to soften and caramelize, about 10 minutes.
  • Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground turkey. Season with the salt, Hearty spice blend, and chili powder. Stir occasionally, allowing the turkey to brown slightly. Once the turkey is cooked through, about 5 minutes, remove the pan from the heat.
  • Heat the tortillas in a clean skillet or over a medium-low flame on a gas burning stove. Wrap the hot tortillas in a clean kitchen towel to keep warm as you heat the remaining tortillas.
  • Assemble the tacos: Fill the hot tortillas with the turkey filling and garnish with salsa, cheese, radishes, and cilantro. Serve with lime wedges on the side.
  • Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use a variety of spices: Don't just stick to the basics like salt and pepper. Experiment with different spices like chili powder, cumin, paprika, and oregano to add depth of flavor to your turkey tacos.
  • Don't overcook the turkey: Overcooked turkey is dry and chewy. Cook it just until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh ingredients always taste better than processed or frozen ingredients. If you can, try to use fresh vegetables, herbs, and spices in your turkey tacos.
  • Make your own tortillas: Homemade tortillas are softer and more flavorful than store-bought tortillas. If you have time, try making your own tortillas for your turkey tacos.
  • Add your favorite toppings: The best thing about turkey tacos is that you can customize them to your liking. Add your favorite toppings like cheese, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, and pico de gallo.

Conclusion:

Turkey tacos are a delicious and versatile meal that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy meal, give turkey tacos a try. You won't be disappointed!
