GRILLED HAM STEAK WITH SOUTHWESTERN RUB

Grilled Ham Steak With Southwestern Rub image

Ask the butcher to cut the ham steaks for you for the tastiest, easiest dinner you've made in a long time (try it for brunch, too!) This dish is deliciously simple, so pick a simply elegant wine. Try a Chablis Premier Cru, which is a Chardonnay unadorned with oak--go for a select vineyard. The spicy ham will benefit from the wine's medium body, long finish, and thirst-quenching acidity. Try a Festbier from Germany; particularly a Marzen lager. The sweeter malts and diminished hoppiness will bring out the subtly sweet flavors of the ham and the earthy spiciness of the rub. Serve with some mashed sweet potatoes and fresh blanched green beans, if desired.

Tips:

  • Select a thick-cut ham steak: A thicker steak will cook more evenly and stay juicy. Look for a steak that is at least 3/4-inch thick.
  • Marinate the ham steak: Marinating the ham steak in a flavorful marinade will help to tenderize it and add flavor. You can use a variety of marinades, such as a simple mixture of olive oil, vinegar, and herbs, or a more complex marinade that includes spices, garlic, and citrus. Marinate the ham steak for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  • Cook the ham steak over medium-high heat: This will help to sear the outside of the steak and keep the inside juicy. Cook the steak for 8-10 minutes per side, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the ham steak rest before serving: This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the steak, making it more tender and flavorful. Let the steak rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Conclusion:

Grilled ham steak is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is easy to make and can be customized with a variety of marinades and toppings. Whether you are looking for a quick and easy weeknight meal or a special occasion dish, grilled ham steak is a great option. So fire up your grill and give this recipe a try!
