FIG PRESERVES CAKE
From The Ultimate Southern Living Cookbook. My favorite way to use all of those fig preserves I insist on making. A nice moist spice cake, good with coffee when the weather starts to get cool.

This recipe was given to me a long time ago by an older lady. I recently planted a fig tree and hope to have plenty of figs in a few years to try out this recipe.

Tips:
- Use fresh, ripe figs: This will ensure the best flavor and texture in your preserves.
- Don't overcook the preserves: Overcooked preserves will be tough and chewy. Cook them only until they reach a thick, syrupy consistency.
- Use a variety of spices: This will add depth of flavor to your preserves. Some good options include cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and ginger.
- Let the preserves cool completely before serving: This will allow the flavors to meld and develop.
- Store the preserves in a cool, dark place: This will help them to keep their fresh flavor for up to a year.
Conclusion:
Fig preserves are a delicious and versatile treat that can be enjoyed in many different ways. They can be spread on toast or crackers, used as a filling for cakes and pastries, or added to yogurt or oatmeal. No matter how you choose to enjoy them, fig preserves are sure to be a hit. So next time you have a chance, give this recipe a try and see for yourself how easy and delicious it is to make your own fig preserves.
