FIRESIDE HOLIDAY COFFEE

Fireside Holiday Coffee image

I found this recipe in our local electric co-op magazine. I love to keep mixes like this fixed up so that there is always something for making those hot drinks on the spur of the moment. Besides, guest will think you are great when you serve them this. And if you are watching your caffine, it is just as good with decafinated coffee.

FIRESIDE COFFEE MIX

One of my great friends made a mug of this for me one winters day. She told me how her family always takes it along on camping trips. I just couldn't leave without the recipe. I have enjoyed making it for my family and now this year I am filling liquid creamer bottles with it, decorating them as snowmen, and passing them out for...

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 c instant cocoa (ovaltine or ghirardelli cocoa with chocolate are my favoites)
2 c instant non dairy creamer, plain (coffeemate not the cheap stuff because you want creamy not just "white")
1 c instant coffee or espresso powder
1 1/2 c granulated sugar
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and store in a well sealed container
  • 2. To make a cup, stir 3 heaping teaspoons into a cup of water. To be quite honest, I use more of the mix per cup than this because I fill my mug up and/or use a cappuccino size mug.
  • 3. This is great on road trips, camping trips, to give as gifts in pretty containers, or just to keep on hand at home all winter long.

Tips for Making Coffee at Home Like a Pro

  • Use fresh, high-quality coffee beans. The flavor of your coffee will be greatly affected by the quality of the beans you use. Choose beans that are roasted within the past two weeks for the best flavor.
  • Grind your coffee beans just before brewing. Grinding your coffee beans just before brewing will help to preserve the flavor and aroma of the coffee. If you grind your beans too far in advance, the flavor will start to fade.
  • Use the right amount of coffee. The amount of coffee you use will affect the strength of your brew. A good rule of thumb is to use two tablespoons of coffee for every six ounces of water.
  • Use hot water. The ideal water temperature for brewing coffee is between 195 and 205 degrees Fahrenheit. If the water is too hot, it will extract bitter flavors from the coffee. If the water is too cold, it will not extract enough flavor.
  • Brew your coffee for the right amount of time. The ideal brewing time for coffee is between three and five minutes. If you brew your coffee for too long, it will become bitter. If you brew your coffee for too short a time, it will be weak.
  • Serve your coffee immediately. Coffee is best enjoyed fresh. Once it has been brewed, it will start to lose its flavor and aroma.

Conclusion

Making great coffee at home is a skill that takes time and practice. But with the right tools and techniques, you can easily brew a delicious cup of coffee that rivals anything you would find in a coffee shop. So experiment with different beans, brewing methods, and flavors until you find the perfect cup of coffee for you.
