Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 9

2-1/4 c all purpose flour
2-1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c cold butter, cubed (1 stick)
1 c (4 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese
3 Tbsp minced fresh chives
1 c buttermilk

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl, whisk the first five ingredients together. Cut in the butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs; stir in cheese and chives.
  • 2. Add buttermilk; stir just until moistened. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead gently 8-10 times.
  • 3. Pat or roll dough to 3/4-in. thickness; cut with a floured 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter or the open end of a small glass. Place 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 425º oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with melted butter.

Tips:

  • Use cold butter and buttermilk: This will help to create flaky layers in the biscuits.
  • Do not overwork the dough: Overworking the dough will make the biscuits tough.
  • Chill the dough before baking: This will help the biscuits to hold their shape and rise properly.
  • Bake the biscuits in a hot oven: This will help to create a golden brown crust.
  • Serve the biscuits warm: Cheddar chive biscuits are best served warm from the oven.

Conclusion:
