AIR FRYER FRENCH FRIES

Air Fryer French Fries image

Since I missed the whole Instant Pot® train, I had to make at least one air fryer recipe while they're still hot. And it doesn't get more classic than French fries; the generally accepted technique is pretty, dare I say, airtight, at this point, but I do have one extra trick in store! Finally, dip them in honey mustard, spicy ketchup, garlic aioli, or all 3 mixed together, like I did.

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 pound russet potatoes, peeled

1 pinch cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon kosher salt

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Potatoes: For crispy fries, opt for starchy potatoes like Russet or Idaho potatoes. These varieties hold their shape well during frying.
  • Cut Potatoes Uniformly: Cut the potatoes into even-sized strips to ensure they cook evenly. For thicker fries, cut them into 1/2-inch strips, and for thinner fries, aim for 1/4-inch strips.
  • Soak the Potatoes (Optional): Soaking the potato strips in cold water for 30 minutes removes excess starch, resulting in crispier fries. Make sure to pat them dry thoroughly before cooking.
  • Season and Coat the Fries: Season the fries with salt, pepper, and other desired seasonings. To achieve a golden-brown color, toss them in a small amount of oil or cooking spray.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to the desired cooking temperature, typically between 350°F to 400°F. Preheating helps the fries cook evenly.
  • Cook the Fries in Batches: Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Cook the fries in batches to ensure they have enough space to crisp up.
  • Shake the Basket During Cooking: To promote even cooking, shake the air fryer basket occasionally during the cooking process. This helps prevent the fries from sticking together and ensures they brown evenly.
  • Adjust Cooking Time: Depending on the thickness of the fries and the desired crispiness, adjust the cooking time accordingly. For thicker fries, cook for 12-15 minutes; for thinner fries, 8-10 minutes.

Air fryer fries are an easy, healthier alternative to deep-fried fries. With just a few simple steps and the right techniques, you can enjoy crispy, golden-brown fries in the comfort of your home.
