Yield Serves 4

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 6-ounce can water-packed tuna, drained, flaked
1 large tomato, chopped
1 medium cucumber, peeled, seeded, chopped
1 small red bell pepper, chopped
1/2 cup chopped green onions
2 celery stalks, chopped
4 ounces (about 1 cup) small shell pasta, freshly cooked
6 tablespoons (or more) prepared ranch-style salad dressing
3 tablespoons chopped fresh dill or 1 tablespoon dried dillweed

Steps:

  • Combine first 6 ingredients in large bowl. Mix in pasta. Add dressing and dill and blend well. Season salad to taste with salt and pepper. (Salad can be prepared 2 hours ahead. Cover and refrigerate.) Adjust salad with more dressing if desired and serve.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality tuna: Opt for solid white albacore tuna packed in water or olive oil. Avoid tuna packed in brine, as it can be too salty.
  • Choose fresh vegetables: Use crisp celery, crunchy carrots, and juicy tomatoes. For a refreshing twist, try adding diced cucumber or shredded zucchini.
  • Don't skimp on the mayonnaise: Mayonnaise is what binds the salad together and gives it its creamy texture. Use a good-quality mayonnaise that you enjoy the taste of.
  • Add some herbs and spices: Fresh dill, parsley, chives, and basil are all great additions to tuna salad. You can also add a pinch of salt, pepper, garlic powder, or onion powder to taste.
  • Don't overmix the salad: Mix the ingredients together gently until they are just combined. Overmixing will make the salad mushy.
  • Chill the salad before serving: This will help the flavors to meld together and make the salad more refreshing.

Conclusion:

Garden tuna salad is an easy and refreshing dish perfect for a light lunch or a quick dinner. It is also a versatile dish that can be customized to your liking. So get creative and experiment with different ingredients and flavors. You may be surprised at how delicious a simple tuna salad can be!
