GAVIN II'S EDIBLE SAND

Gavin II's Edible Sand image

My niece asked me to make some edible sand for her son's first birthday to go along with the Finding Nemo® theme and this is what I came up with. Even the party guests were fooled. This is great for kid or adult themed beach parties. For a lighter colored sand use more sugar.

Tips:

  • Use the right sand: Not all sand is edible. Look for fine-grained sand that is free of impurities. You can find edible sand at specialty food stores or online.
  • Wash the sand thoroughly: Before using, rinse the sand several times with cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
  • Toast the sand: Toasting the sand will help to bring out its flavor and make it more palatable. Spread the sand in a thin layer on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes, or until it is golden brown.
  • Season the sand: You can season the sand with a variety of spices and herbs to taste. Some popular options include salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  • Use edible sand sparingly: Edible sand is a novelty food and should be used sparingly. It is not a good source of nutrients and can be harmful if consumed in large quantities.

Conclusion:

Edible sand is a unique and interesting way to add a touch of creativity to your dishes. It can be used as a garnish, a coating, or even an ingredient in baked goods. However, it is important to use edible sand sparingly, as it is not a good source of nutrients and can be harmful if consumed in large quantities.
