JELLO POPCORN BALLS

Jello Popcorn Balls image

My dad's aunt would make these for Christmas every year for him and mail them....now it's my job! If you over cook they will be hard as a rock so be careful.

Provided by startnover

Categories     Gelatin

Time 10m

Yield 1 batch

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup sugar
1 (3 ounce) package Jello gelatin (you can use any , we do it by color and season)
10 cups popped popcorn

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients except popcorn in a heavy sauce pan.
  • Bring to a boil and cook just till jello and sugar are dissolved.
  • Pour over popcorn and mix well and fast.
  • Wet your hands under cold water, shake it off don't dry it and work quickly forming popcorn balls.
  • As you make them , wrap them in squares of wax paper.
  • Re-wet your hands in between forming.
  • The amount you get will depend on how big you make them -- cook time is left blank because it will vary.

Tips:

  • Choose the right popcorn kernels. For the best results, use non-GMO popcorn kernels that are fresh and have a high popping rate.
  • Use the right amount of oil. Too much oil will make the popcorn greasy, while too little oil will make it dry and tough.
  • Heat the oil to the right temperature. The ideal temperature for popping popcorn is between 400°F and 450°F. You can use a candy thermometer to measure the temperature of the oil.
  • Add the popcorn kernels to the oil. Add the popcorn kernels to the hot oil in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the pot, or the popcorn will not pop evenly.
  • Cover the pot and shake it. Cover the pot with a lid and shake it gently back and forth over medium heat. This will help to distribute the heat evenly and prevent the popcorn from burning.
  • Listen for the popping sounds to stop. Once the popping sounds have stopped, remove the pot from the heat and transfer the popcorn to a serving bowl.
  • Add your favorite flavorings. You can add a variety of flavorings to your popcorn, such as salt, butter, cheese, caramel, or chocolate. You can also add spices, herbs, or nuts for a more savory flavor.

Conclusion:

Gelatin-flavored popcorn is a delicious and easy-to-make snack that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With a variety of flavors to choose from, there is sure to be a gelatin-flavored popcorn that everyone will love. So next time you are looking for a fun and tasty snack, give gelatin-flavored popcorn a try!
