Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 13

15 ounce box chocolate cake mix ((I like Devil's Food cake mix))
½ cup canola or vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ cup half and half ((can substitute evaporated milk))
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup butter ((half a stick))
2 large egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ cup shredded sweetened coconut
½ cup chopped pecans
½ cup milk chocolate chips ((optional but recommeded) )

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degees. Grease and line a 9 x 9 inch baking pan with parchment paper leaving an overhang; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the cake mix, oil, eggs, and vanilla until just combined. (The mixture will be thick)*
  • Press the brownie mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake on the center rack for about 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the brownies comes out clean. Be careful not to overcook the brownies.
  • While the brownies bake, in a medium saucepan over low heat, whisk together the half and half, brown sugar, butter, egg yolks, vanilla, and salt. Bring to a low simmer and whisk constantly until thickened, about 8 minutes.
  • Turn of the heat and stir in the shredded sweetened coconut and chopped pecans. Pour over the cooked brownies and sprinkle on chocolate chips if using.
  • Cool the bars completely before cutting. You can refrigerate to speed up this process. To cut, simply remove the bars from the pan using the parchment paper and cut into 16 squares.

CARAMEL BROWNIES MADE WITH A CAKE MIX RECIPE

Caramel Brownies Made with a Cake Mix Recipe image

These Cake Mix Caramel Brownies are so easy to make and full of chocolatey, fudgy flavor. If you are a caramel and brownie fan, then this recipe has your name written all over it.

Provided by Camille Beckstrand

Categories     Dessert

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 7

14 ounces wrapped caramels
½ cup evaporated milk
15.25 ounces German chocolate cake mix
⅓ cup evaporated milk
¾ cup butter (melted)
¼ cup pecans (chopped)
2 cup milk chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Peel caramels and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Stir in 1/2 cup evaporated milk. Heat and stir until all caramels are melted (you can also do this on the stove-top over low heat- just keep stirring until caramels are melted).
  • Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan (and when I say grease it, I mean it! These tend to be sticky, so grease it well. You may also want to grease the sides of the pan to prevent the caramel from sticking).
  • In a large mixing bowl, mix together cake mix, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, melted butter, and chopped pecans. The dough will be VERY thick and kind of hard to stir- that means that you made it right! Place 1/2 of the batter in prepared baking pan. I sprayed my fingers with non-stick cooking spray and spread it in the bottom of the pan using my hands.
  • Bake for 8 minutes.
  • Place the remaining batter into the fridge. Remove brownies from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Drizzle caramel sauce over chocolate chips. Remove brownie mix from refrigerator. Using a teaspoon, make small balls with the batter and smash flat. Very carefully, place on top of the caramel sauce until the top is completely covered. With the batter being so thick, I places little teaspoonfuls all over the top and then carefully pushed them together to cover the caramel. It doesn't look very pretty, but they will still taste amazing.
  • Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes. Remove and let cool. It is best to wait until the brownies are cooled to cut into them (it will be hard, but trust me- they are so worth the wait!).

Tips:

  • To achieve fudgy brownies, use a combination of butter and oil in the batter. Butter adds richness and flavor, while oil helps keep the brownies moist and chewy.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can result in tough, dense brownies. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Use a quality German chocolate cake mix. A good cake mix will produce flavorful brownies.
  • Add chopped nuts, chocolate chips, or other mix-ins to your liking. This will add extra flavor and texture to the brownies.
  • Bake the brownies until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  • Let the brownies cool completely before cutting and serving. This will help them hold their shape.

Conclusion:

With their rich chocolate flavor, chewy texture, and irresistible coconut-pecan frosting, these German chocolate cake mix brownies are sure to be a hit with chocolate lovers of all ages. They're easy to make and can be customized to your liking with different mix-ins. So next time you're craving a chocolatey treat, give these brownies a try!
