CONTEST-WINNING GERMAN PIZZA

Contest-Winning German Pizza image

Meet the Cook: Most of our family lives in Pennsylvania. They visit us often, and I like to serve this simple meal when they do. Even if it's just my husband, our 1-1/2-year-old and me around the table, German Pizza is a favorite. We have 280 sows and raise pigs to feeder size. There's plenty to do, and quick meals are appreciated. I do a good bit of canning and freezing. I also enjoy sewing. And I love to read - especially Country Woman! -Audrey Nolt, Versailles, Missouri

Provided by Angela Newland

Categories     Pizza

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 medium onion, chopped
1/2 green pepper, diced
1 1/2 tsp salt, divided
1/2 tsp pepper
2 Tbsp butter
6 medium potatoes, peeled and finely shredded
3 eggs, beaten
1/3 c milk
2 c shredded cheddar or mozarella cheese

Steps:

  • 1. In a 12 inch skillet over medium heart, brown beef with onion, green pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and pepper. Remove meat mixture from skillet and drain fat. Reduce heat to low. Melt butter; spread potatoes over butter and sprinkle with remaining salt. Top with beef mixture. Combine eggs and milk; pour over all. Cook, covered, until potatoes are tender, about 30 minutes.
  • 2. Top with cheese; cover and heat until cheese is melted, about 5 minutes. Cut into wedges or squares to serve.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients: This will make a big difference in the taste of your pizza. Use fresh vegetables, herbs, and cheese, and choose a good quality pizza dough.
  • Don't overload the pizza with toppings: This will make it soggy and difficult to cook evenly. A few simple toppings are all you need for a delicious pizza.
  • Bake the pizza at a high temperature: This will help the crust get crispy and the cheese melt evenly. Aim for a temperature of at least 450°F (230°C).
  • Don't overcook the pizza: Keep an eye on it while it's baking and remove it from the oven as soon as the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let the pizza cool slightly before slicing and serving: This will help the toppings stay in place and prevent the cheese from running off.

Conclusion:

German pizza is a delicious and versatile dish that can be customized to suit your own taste. With so many different topping combinations to choose from, you're sure to find a pizza that everyone will enjoy. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give German pizza a try.
