Tips:

  • Use high-quality pasta: Opt for a brand that uses durum wheat semolina flour, which holds its shape better during cooking.
  • Cook the pasta al dente: This means cooking it until it is just tender but still has a slight bite to it. This will help the pasta hold its shape and prevent it from becoming mushy.
  • Use a large pot: This will give the pasta plenty of room to cook evenly. If you use a pot that is too small, the pasta will clump together and not cook properly.
  • Add salt to the water: This will help to flavor the pasta. Use about 1 tablespoon of salt per 4 quarts of water.
  • Rinse the pasta with cold water: This will stop the cooking process and help to prevent the pasta from sticking together.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: This will add flavor, color, and nutrients to your pasta dish. Some good choices include broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, zucchini, and bell peppers.
  • Use fresh herbs: These will add a bright, flavorful touch to your pasta dish. Some good choices include basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary.
  • Use a good quality cheese: This will help to add flavor and richness to your pasta dish. Some good choices include Parmesan, Romano, and Asiago.
  • Don't overcook the sauce: This can make the sauce thick and gloppy. Simmer the sauce for just a few minutes, or until it is heated through.
  • Serve the pasta immediately: This will ensure that the pasta is at its best. If you need to make the pasta ahead of time, cook it al dente, rinse it with cold water, and then toss it with a little olive oil. When you're ready to serve, heat the sauce and toss the pasta in it.
