Sweet and Spicy Ginger Beer Pulled Pork image

This is a relaxed slow cooker recipe. I've never really measured ingredients out as I've gone, but the end result is absolutely amazing. I never even use BBQ sauce, but you can if you want. Feel free to play with the ingredients, more or less here and there, to suit the tastes of your family. And get ready for a whole lot of mmmmmmm.

Tips:

  • Selecting the Right Cut of Pork: Choose a pork shoulder or pork butt, also known as Boston butt. These cuts are ideal for slow cooking and yield tender, flavorful pulled pork.
  • Enhance Flavor with Rub: Generously coat the pork with a flavorful rub made from spices like paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
  • Slow Cooking Perfection: Cook the pork shoulder in a slow cooker or Dutch oven on low heat for 8-10 hours. This allows the connective tissues to break down, resulting in fall-apart tender pork.
  • Add Ginger Beer for Unique Flavor: Incorporate ginger beer into the cooking liquid to infuse the pork with a subtle sweetness and a hint of ginger spice.
  • Create a Flavorful Sauce: Make a tangy and flavorful sauce by combining ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and spices. Simmer the sauce until it thickens and coats the pork.
  • Serve with Desired Sides: Accompany the pulled pork with classic sides like coleslaw, baked beans, or potato salad. You can also serve it on slider buns or as a taco filling.

Ginger beer pulled pork is a delectable dish that combines the succulent texture of slow-cooked pork with the unique flavor of ginger beer.
