Time 1h

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves, minced
1 egg
1 green onion, minced
1 ½ tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon Asian (toasted) sesame oil
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
¼ teaspoon salt
50 wonton wrappers
2 cups cold water

Steps:

  • Mix chicken, egg, green onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, vegetable oil, and salt in a large bowl until evenly combined.
  • Scoop about 1 teaspoon chicken mixture and place into the center of a wonton wrapper. Moisten 2 adjacent edges of the wrapper with water and fold into a triangle. Connect the two lower points of the wrapper and moisten to seal and make a hat shape. Repeat with remaining chicken and wonton wrappers.
  • Bring a large pot of water to boil. Stir wontons into boiling water. Add 1/2 cup cold water and allow water to return to a boil. Repeat boiling with another 1/2 cup cold water. Wontons are ready when chicken is no longer pink in the center, about 5 minutes. Drain.

Tips:

1. Use Fresh Ginger: Fresh ginger adds a vibrant, spicy flavor to the wontons. Make sure to use fresh ginger rather than ground ginger for the best taste. 2. Don't Overcook the Chicken: Overcooked chicken can become dry and tough. Cook the chicken just until it is cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. 3. Use a Food Processor for the Wonton Wrappers: A food processor makes it easy to mix and knead the dough for the wonton wrappers. If you don't have a food processor, you can mix and knead the dough by hand. 4. Roll the Wonton Wrappers Thin: The thinner the wonton wrappers, the more delicate the wontons will be. Roll the wrappers out to about 1/16-inch thick. 5. Fill the Wontons Generously: Don't be afraid to fill the wontons generously with the chicken filling. The more filling, the more flavorful the wontons will be. 6. Cook the Wontons in a Well-Seasoned Broth: The broth that you cook the wontons in will add flavor to the wontons. Make sure to season the broth well with soy sauce, ginger, and garlic. 7. Serve the Wontons Immediately: Wontons are best served immediately after they are cooked. Garnish with green onions and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Conclusion:

These ginger chicken wontons are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. They are perfect for a party or a weeknight meal. With their crispy wrappers, flavorful chicken filling, and savory broth, these wontons are sure to be a hit. So next time you're looking for a new and exciting dish to try, give these ginger chicken wontons a try. You won't be disappointed!
