GRANDMA RUBY'S CRANBERRY SALAD RECIPE

Grandma Ruby's Cranberry Salad Recipe image

Provided by Tonsc721

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups sugar
1 scant cup water
1 quart fresh cranberries
15 large marshmallows, cut up
1 large package of lemon jello
1 cup cold water
1 cup nuts, chopped
1 cup apple, chopped
1 cup celery, chopped

Steps:

  • Boil the first three ingredients together for 5 minutes. Add the marshmallows and the jello. Stir until the marshmallows have dissolved. Let it cool. When it is cool, add the cup of cold water, nuts, apples and celery. Pour into a 9" square dish and refrigerate until solid and ready to serve. (I usually make this in a clear, square glass dish because it looks pretty from the sides. I serve it cut into small squares because it seems nicer to me than a big glop from a spoon.)

Tips:

  • For a sweeter salad, use more sugar or honey. For a tarter salad, use less sugar or honey.
  • If you can't find fresh cranberries, you can use frozen cranberries. Thaw them before using.
  • You can use any type of nuts in this salad. Walnuts, pecans, and almonds are all good choices.
  • If you don't have any orange zest, you can use lemon zest instead.
  • This salad is best served chilled. You can make it ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

Grandma Ruby's Cranberry Salad is a delicious and festive side dish that is perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any other special occasion. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you're looking for a delicious and unique cranberry salad recipe, give this one a try.
