GRANDMA'S STROGANOFF

Grandma's Stroganoff image

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 1h40m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 lbs cubed round steaks
1 -1 1/2 lb egg noodles (or rice)
2 (10 3/4 ounce) cans mushroom soup
1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced
1.5 (1 1/4 ounce) envelopes onion soup mix
3/4 cup water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degree.
  • Brown the cubed meat.
  • Mix rest of ingredients together with it in an oven safe pan.
  • Place in oven for 1 ½ hours.
  • After 1 hour taste juice. If you add more water you may want to add a little more onion soup.
  • Serve over rice or egg noodles.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality beef: Opt for a leaner cut of beef, such as flank steak or sirloin, to ensure a tender and flavorful stroganoff. If using a tougher cut, consider marinating it overnight in a mixture of red wine, garlic, and herbs to tenderize the meat.
  • Slice the beef thinly: Thinly sliced beef will cook quickly and evenly, resulting in a more tender and flavorful stroganoff. Aim for slices that are about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Sauté the beef in batches: To prevent the beef from overcrowding the pan and steaming instead of searing, cook it in batches. This will help to create a nice brown crust on the beef, which will add flavor to the stroganoff.
  • Use a flavorful broth: The broth you use will greatly impact the flavor of your stroganoff. Choose a broth that is rich in flavor, such as beef broth, chicken broth, or vegetable broth. You can also use a combination of broths for a more complex flavor.
  • Don't overcook the beef: Beef stroganoff is a quick-cooking dish, so it's important not to overcook the beef. Overcooked beef will become tough and chewy. Cook the beef until it is just tender, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Add the sour cream and mustard at the end: Sour cream and mustard are two essential ingredients in beef stroganoff, but they should be added at the end of the cooking process to prevent them from curdling.

Conclusion:

Beef stroganoff is a classic dish that is both delicious and easy to make. By following these tips, you can create a flavorful and tender stroganoff that your family and friends will love. Serve the stroganoff over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice, and garnish with fresh parsley or chives for a finishing touch.
