OLD FASHIONED SCALLOPED TOMATOES

This recipe came from the sweetest most kind-hearted older lady from our Church. I think of her each time I make this dish. She was an excellent cook and made the best fried chicken! To my knowledge, there is no other scalloped tomato recipe like it here on RecipeZaar. This is pure comfort food at its best! If you wish to use less sugar, then please do so. For an extra treat, add some cheese cubes to these scalloped tomatoes before baking. I think you will be surprised with one ingredient here...I'll let you find it! Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, firm tomatoes. This will ensure that they hold their shape during the breading and baking process.
  • Use a light hand when breading the tomatoes. You don't want the breading to be too thick, or it will overpower the flavor of the tomatoes.
  • Be careful not to overcrowd the baking sheet. This will prevent the tomatoes from cooking evenly.
  • Bake the tomatoes until they are golden brown and crispy. This will ensure that they are cooked through.
  • Serve the tomatoes immediately. They are best enjoyed hot out of the oven.

Conclusion:

Grandma's breaded scalloped tomatoes are a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. The tomatoes are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the breading adds a delicious flavor. This dish is sure to be a hit with everyone at your table.
