DR. PAT'S HOT TODDY COLD REMEDY

Dr. Pat's Hot Toddy Cold Remedy image

Okay, so our family doctor suggested this instead of prescription cough syrup for relieving the cold symptoms of the ADULTS in our family (he of course, did NOT suggest it as a CURE). He says the whisky helps you sleep while the honey and lemon soothe your throat. I'm pretty sure it works, but in the end we really don't care because we love this warm drink when we aren't feeling well. Even sometimes when we are feeling well! UPDATE: Our beloved Dr. Pat passed away November 19,2010 at the age of 59 from Melanoma so now this recipe with all of it's great reviews is even more special to our family. We will miss you forever Pat!!!

Time 5m

Yield 1 serving

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 scoops vanilla ice cream
1 ounce bourbon (recommended: Maker's Mark)
2 tablespoons caramel ice cream topping
1 dollop whipped cream
1/2 toffee bar, chopped for garnish (recommended: Hersey's Skor Bar)

Steps:

  • In a blender, combine the ice cream and the bourbon. Blend on high speed until the desired consistency is reached (the longer you blend, the thicker the milkshake). In a medium glass, drizzle the caramel in a spiral around the inside of the glass. To help distribute the caramel evenly turn the glass as you drizzle. Pour the milkshake into the glass, and stop when almost full. Top with the dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of toffee pieces.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality ingredients: Use fresh fruits, herbs, and spices to create a flavorful and aromatic hot toddy.
  • Boil the water first: This will help to release the flavors of the ingredients and create a more potent drink.
  • Use a variety of spices: Experiment with different spices, such as cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg, to create a unique and flavorful hot toddy.
  • Sweeten to taste: Add honey, maple syrup, or sugar to taste, depending on your preference.
  • Garnish with a lemon twist: This will add a pop of citrus flavor and aroma to your hot toddy.

Conclusion:

A hot toddy is a classic cold-weather drink that can help to soothe a sore throat, clear congestion, and promote relaxation. With its combination of hot water, spices, honey, and whiskey, a hot toddy is a delicious and effective way to combat the symptoms of a cold or flu. Whether you prefer a classic hot toddy or a more modern variation, there is a recipe out there to suit your taste. So next time you're feeling under the weather, reach for a hot toddy and let its soothing properties work their magic.
