Categories     Vegetable

Time 35m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 head cabbage, grated
1/2 cup finely chopped green pepper
1/2 cup finely chopped celery
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup finely shredded carrot
1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds

Steps:

  • Prepare vegetables as directed.
  • Combine in medium bowl.
  • Set aside.
  • In a small saucepan, combine vinegar, sugar and salt.
  • Simmer until sugar is dissolved.
  • Add celery seed and mustard seed.
  • Cool.
  • Pour vinegar mixture over vegetables.
  • Stir until well coated.
  • Chill and serve.

Tips:

  • Use a sharp knife or mandoline to thinly slice the cabbage and carrots. This will help the slaw absorb the dressing more evenly.
  • If you don't have a mandoline, you can use a food processor fitted with the slicing disc. Just be careful not to over-process the vegetables, or they will become mushy.
  • Use a light hand when adding the dressing. You can always add more, but it's difficult to take it out once it's been added.
  • Let the slaw chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the slaw to become more crisp.
  • Serve the slaw as a side dish with grilled chicken, fish, or pork. It's also a great addition to sandwiches and wraps.

Conclusion:

Grandma's Sweet Slaw is a classic summer side dish that is always a hit. It's light, refreshing, and packed with flavor. With just a few simple ingredients, you can easily make this delicious slaw at home. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy side dish, give Grandma's Sweet Slaw a try!
