This is a fantastic rum based drink that my grandmother made for me. It cannot be made virgin, the rum is the key ingredient! The peach skins add a lovely bit of color. Canned peaches do not work as well.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, firm peaches: Ensure the peaches are free of blemishes and have a deep, golden-orange color. Gently press the peach; it should give slightly to the touch.
  • Blanch the peaches: This quick process helps loosen the skin and makes it easier to peel. Simply immerse the peaches in boiling water for about 30 seconds, then transfer them to an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
  • Peel and slice the peaches: Once the peaches are blanched, the skin should slip off easily. Slice the peaches into wedges or slices, depending on your preference.
  • Use a variety of spices: Ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are classic spices that pair well with peaches. Experiment with different combinations to find your favorite blend.
  • Sweeten to taste: The amount of sugar you add will depend on the sweetness of your peaches. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.
  • Cook until the peaches are tender: Simmer the peaches in the spiced syrup until they are tender but still hold their shape. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes.
  • Serve warm or cold: Peach cobbler can be served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or chilled and served as a refreshing dessert.

Conclusion:

Peach cobbler is a classic summer dessert that is easy to make and loved by people of all ages. With its sweet, juicy peaches and flaky, buttery crust, it's the perfect way to enjoy the season's best fruit. Whether you serve it warm with a scoop of ice cream or chilled as a refreshing treat, peach cobbler is sure to be a hit at your next gathering.
