Time 1h25m

Yield 1 8x8 inch pan

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 cups concord grapes
1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 cup uncooked rolled oats
1/2 cup flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter

Steps:

  • Squeeze grapes to separate pulp from skins.
  • Boil pulp 5 minutes, then strain to remove seeds.
  • Add skins to pulp and boil 10 minutes.
  • Combine cornstarch and sugar, mixing until well blended.
  • Add this to grape mixture along with the lemon juice, bringing to a boil again and cooking until thick.
  • Cool.
  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Mix oats, flour and brown sugar.
  • Cut in butter until crumbly.
  • Press half of this mixture into a greased 8x8-inch baking pan.
  • Spread with grape mixture.
  • Top with remaining oat mixture.
  • Bake 45 minutes until golden.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, ripe grapes: Fresh grapes will have a sweeter flavor and a more tender texture than grapes that are past their prime.
  • Choose a variety of grapes: Using a variety of grapes will give your squares a more complex flavor and texture. Some good options include red grapes, green grapes, and black grapes.
  • Wash the grapes thoroughly: Be sure to wash the grapes thoroughly before using them to remove any dirt or debris.
  • Use a sharp knife: A sharp knife will make it easier to cut the grapes into even pieces.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make your squares tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the squares until they are golden brown: The squares are done baking when they are golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Conclusion:

Grape squares are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that is perfect for any occasion. They are also a great way to use up any leftover grapes. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can have a delicious and satisfying snack or dessert that the whole family will enjoy.
