GRILLED HAM, EGG AND CHEESE SANDWICH

Grilled Ham, Egg and Cheese Sandwich image

While watching Emerill Live tonight, Bobby Flay was the special guest. While they were cooking, they started joking around saying they were hungry and since Bobby was making a hamburger with ham and cheese, he asked Emerill if he wanted a "ham, egg and cheese sandwich" to go with the beer that Emerill provided him. I hadn't had dinner yet and my protein intake for the day was pretty low so this sounded really good. They didn't show him making it but its not that hard to figure out.

Italian Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwich image

Saw this on Rachael Ray a couple years ago, and my husband said it was the best sandwich he ever had.

Provided by retiree09

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 20m

Yield 4 sandwiches, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 loaf Italian bread
3 tablespoons butter, softened
4 ounces ham, thinly sliced
4 ounces swiss cheese, sliced
fresh basil leaf
1/4 cup olive oil
1 garlic clove, minced

Steps:

  • Slice bread on the diagonal so you have longer slices, into 8 slices for 4 sandwiches. Place olive oil and garlic in small saucepan and heat only till it's just warm and garlic infuses into oil. Remove from heat. Butter inside of bread slices. Place ham on microwavable dish and heat through. Blot any juices that lay on the plate so it doesn't make sandwiches soggy.
  • Preheat large skillet or griddle on stovetop on medium heat. Put ham on buttered bread, then basil leaves, then cheese. Brush garlic-infused olive oil on outside of sandwiches and place in preheated skillet or griddle. Lightly brown on each side.

GRILLED HAM AND CHEESE SANDWICH LOAF

Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwich Loaf image

This awesome camping lunch recipe idea assembles in minutes and is very easy to cook over the campfire or on the grill.

Provided by Karen Petree

Categories     Sandwiches

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 loaf italian bread (10 to 12 inches)
3 Tbsp butter or margarine, softened
1 Tbsp spicy brown or country-style dijon mustard
6 slice swiss cheese
3/4 lb thinly sliced fully cooked ham

Steps:

  • 1. Spray 25×18-inch sheet of heavy-duty foil with cooking spray. Without cutting all the way through, cut loaf of bread into 12 (3/4-inch) slices, cutting to within 1/4 inch of bottom.
  • 2. Stir together butter and mustard. Spread every other slice of bread with slightly less than 2 teaspoons mustard mixture, creating 6 sandwiches. Fold each slice of cheese in half diagonally; tuck each into sandwich. Divide ham evenly among sandwiches, tucking in to fit. Place loaf on center of foil. Seal edges, making tight 1/2-inch fold; fold again, allowing space for heat circulation and expansion.
  • 3. Place foil-wrapped loaf on grill over medium heat. Cover grill; cook 20 to 25 minutes or until cheese is melted and loaf is hot, turning loaf frequently. To serve, open packet carefully to allow steam to escape. Remove foil from loaf; pull apart sandwiches.

Tips:

  • Use a sturdy bread that can hold up to the fillings and won't get soggy. Some good options include sourdough, French bread, or a hearty whole-wheat bread.
  • Spread a thin layer of butter or mayonnaise on one side of each slice of bread. This will help the bread to toast evenly and prevent it from sticking to the grill.
  • Use high-quality cheese that melts well. Some good options include cheddar, mozzarella, or Swiss cheese.
  • Don't overload the sandwich with fillings. Too much fillings can make the sandwich difficult to eat and can cause it to fall apart.
  • Grill the sandwich over medium heat until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. This usually takes about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Let the sandwich cool for a minute or two before cutting into it. This will help the fillings to set and prevent them from spilling out.

Conclusion:

A grilled ham and cheese sandwich is a classic comfort food that is easy to make and loved by people of all ages. With a few simple tips, you can make a grilled ham and cheese sandwich that is perfectly golden brown, cheesy, and delicious. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
