Tips:
- Ensure your egg whites are at room temperature before whipping. This helps them reach their full potential volume and create stiff peaks.
- Use a clean, grease-free bowl and whisk when whipping the egg whites. Any residue can prevent the whites from whipping up properly.
- Gradually add the sugar to the egg whites while whipping. Adding it all at once can cause the egg whites to deflate.
- Whip the egg whites until they reach stiff peaks. This means that when you lift the whisk out of the bowl, the peaks of the egg whites should hold their shape.
- Be careful not to overbeat the egg whites. Overbeaten egg whites can become dry and crumbly.
- Pipe the meringue mixture onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure to leave enough space between the meringues so they don't touch during baking.
- Bake the meringues in a low oven (around 200°F) for 1-2 hours, or until they are dry and crisp.
- Let the meringues cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
Conclusion:
Espumillas are a delicious and versatile treat that can be enjoyed on their own or used to decorate cakes and other desserts. With a little practice, you can easily master the art of making these delicate meringues at home. Whether you're a seasoned baker or just starting out, give espumillas a try and experience the joy of creating these delightful little clouds of sweetness.
