Tips:

  • Choose the right ham hock: Look for a ham hock that is meaty and has a good amount of fat. This will help to flavor the beans and make them more satisfying.
  • Soak the beans overnight: This will help to reduce the cooking time and make the beans more tender.
  • Use a variety of beans: Don't be afraid to mix and match different types of beans. This will add flavor and texture to the dish.
  • Add vegetables: Vegetables such as onions, carrots, and celery are a great way to add flavor and nutrition to the dish.
  • Season the dish well: Don't be afraid to experiment with different seasonings. Ham hocks are a blank canvas for flavor, so feel free to add your favorite herbs and spices.
  • Cook the dish slowly: Ham hocks and beans are a dish that is best cooked low and slow. This will help to tenderize the meat and allow the flavors to develop.
