CREAMY PENNE PASTA WITH HAM AND PEAS

Creamy Penne Pasta With Ham and Peas image

I tried to copy a wonderful dish I had at a small local Italian restaurant and this one turned out WONDERFUL (for a lot less money too!) The flavors are excellent and it's a totally new way to use up leftover ham. The crispy ham reminds me of pancetta. This is a very forgiving recipe and many different vegetables can be added to your liking, try sauteed zucchini with the peas, or mushrooms, broccoli, etc.

HAM AND PASTA TOSS

Ham and Pasta Toss image

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 (12-ounce) package pasta
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can chicken broth
3/4 teaspoon dried basil, crumbled (or 1 tablespoon fresh)
4 ounces boiled ham, thinly sliced, cut into 1/2 inch strips

Steps:

  • Cook pasta according to package directions. Heat oil in medium saucepan over medium heat. Pour in broth; add basil and cook 3 minutes, or until it begins to boil. Pour pasta into large colander to drain. Return pasta to pan and combine with broth mixture. Add ham and toss well. Cook about 2 minutes over medium-high heat; serve piping hot. May sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, if desired.

Nutrition Facts : Nutritional Facts Serves

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients. The better the ingredients, the better the pasta toss will be. Use fresh vegetables, flavorful cheese, and a good quality ham.
  • Cook the pasta al dente. This means cooking the pasta until it is still slightly firm to the bite. Overcooked pasta will be mushy and will not hold its shape well in the pasta toss.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan. When cooking the vegetables, don't overcrowd the pan. This will cause them to steam instead of sautéing, and they will not brown properly.
  • Use a large skillet. When assembling the pasta toss, use a large skillet so that there is plenty of room for all of the ingredients. This will help to ensure that the pasta toss is evenly heated.
  • Serve immediately. Pasta toss is best served immediately after it is made. This will help to ensure that the pasta is still hot and the vegetables are still crisp.

Conclusion:

Ham pasta toss is a quick and easy meal that is perfect for a busy weeknight. It is also a great way to use up leftover ham. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy.
