Whether you call them hamburgers or lima beans, these nutritious legumes make a delicious addition to many dishes. Lima beans gained the "hamburger" moniker due to their meaty taste that was thought to be similar to ground beef when cooked properly. While "hamburger beans" have a mild flavor on their own, they pair perfectly with various herbs and spices just like their namesake. Hamburger beans are a good source of protein, fiber, and iron, making them a healthy choice for any meal. With so much versatility when it comes to preparation, it’s no wonder that so many love this bean.

CAMPFIRE HAMBURGER AND BEANS
Although I did make this "car camping", when my sons were young, it is a quick and easy, at home, top of the stove, one skillet dish. Sometimes, I use bacon, sometimes not. You might want to use less catsup, sugar, and molasses if you want it less sweet.

HAMBURGER BEANS
When I grew up my father was the one who cooked dinner on weeknights. He enjoyed "inventing" dishes from what was on hand. This is my tweaked version of his creation. Delicious, quick to make and easy on the budget. My kids always used to fight over the leftovers, if there *were* any. Wonderful served with a fresh salad, apple sauce and bread & butter. Servings is a guess-timate, but it makes enough for a hungry family of six! Can be simmered in a crockput on low for 4 hours if desired. Throw in 1-2 teaspoons of Recipe #50639 if you want a more complex flavor - yum!

HAMBURGER AND KIDNEY BEANS
Another simple (and fast) yet tastey recipe from my husband's childhood. When I asked Curt the name of this particular recipe, he said, "Hamburger and Kidney Beans". When I asked again, he gave me the same answer. I wanted it to have some really cool name that I could use here on the site, but this is it: Hamburger and Kidney Beans. His mom would cook this and would just serve it plain. It was Curt that added the Mashed Potatoes later. I omitted the recipe for instant mashed potatoes, assuming that you all know how to make them to your own likeing. Of course you can always use real mashed potatoes, but in a time crunch you can use instant, or this would be great for left over mashed as well. You can adjust this recipe easily to fit your family size.

Steps:
- Brown and drain ground beef.
- Add Kidney Beans (I always drain one can and use juice from other can) to beef and stir.
- Season to taste.
- Serve over Mashed Potatoes.
Tips:
- Soak the beans overnight: This will help them cook faster and more evenly.
- Use a variety of beans: This will give your burger more flavor and texture.
- Don't overcook the beans: They should be cooked until they are tender but still hold their shape.
- Season the beans well: This will help them taste their best.
- Use a good quality bun: This will make your burger more enjoyable to eat.
- Add your favorite toppings: This is where you can get creative and make your burger your own.
Conclusion:
Hamburger beans are a delicious and versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of dishes. They are a good source of protein, fiber, and other nutrients. Hamburger beans are also a budget-friendly option that can be used to make a variety of affordable and satisfying meals. Whether you are looking for a quick and easy weeknight meal or a hearty and flavorful dish to serve at your next party, hamburger beans are a great option.
