Yield Serves 6

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 medium-size onion, chopped
1 pound ground beef
salt and pepper
1 No. 2 can (2 1/2 cups) or 1/2 pound cooked green beans
1 10 1/2- or 11-ounce can condensed tomato soup
5 medium-size potatoes, cooked
1/2 cup warm milk
1 beaten egg

Steps:

  • Brown onion in hot fat; add meat and seasonings; brown. Add drained beans and soup; pour into greased casserole. Mash potatoes; add milk, egg, and seasonings. Spoon in mounds over meat. Bake in moderate oven (350°F) 30 minutes.

Tips

  • Use a good quality ground beef. Look for beef that is at least 80/20 lean-to-fat ratio. This will ensure that your hamburger pie is juicy and flavorful.
  • Season the beef well. Use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to taste. You can also add other spices, such as chili powder or cumin, if you like.
  • Cook the beef until it is browned. This will help to develop the flavor of the beef and prevent it from becoming dry.
  • Use a variety of vegetables in your pie. This will add color, flavor, and nutrients to your dish. Good choices include carrots, celery, onions, and peas.
  • Don't overcook the vegetables. You want them to be tender but still have a little bit of crunch.
  • Use a good quality cheese. This will make a big difference in the flavor of your pie. Sharp cheddar or mozzarella are both good choices.
  • Don't overcook the pie. The filling should be bubbly and the crust should be golden brown.

Conclusion

Hamburger pie is a classic comfort food dish that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. By following these tips, you can make a delicious and satisfying hamburger pie that your family and friends will love.
