Excellent Venison Soup image

This soup is outstanding and a wonderful use of ground venison or elk, which is much better for you than ground beef. It also uses some veggies that we don't use very often, if ever! Here, it all comes together deliciously.

Tips:

  • Choose the right venison cut: For a tender and flavorful soup, use venison from the shoulder, chuck, or flank. These cuts have a good amount of marbling, which will help keep the soup moist and flavorful.
  • Brown the venison before simmering: Browning the venison before adding it to the soup will help develop its flavor and give the soup a richer color.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Vegetables add flavor, texture, and nutrients to the soup. Choose a variety of vegetables that you like, such as carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, and turnips.
  • Use a flavorful broth: The broth is the base of the soup, so it's important to use a flavorful one. You can use beef broth, chicken broth, or vegetable broth. For a richer flavor, use a combination of broths.
  • Simmer the soup for at least 1 hour: Simmering the soup for at least 1 hour will help develop the flavors and tenderize the venison.
  • Season the soup to taste: Once the soup is done simmering, season it to taste with salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices. You can also add a splash of lemon juice or vinegar for a bit of brightness.

Conclusion:

Venison soup is a delicious and hearty soup that is perfect for a cold winter day. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Experiment with different vegetables, herbs, and spices to create a soup that you and your family will love.
