- 1. Saute onions in butter in large saute pan over medium high heat til tender, stirring constantly. Remove to a 9 x 13 inch glass baking dish and sprinkle with cheese. Mix soup, cream, soy sauce and pepper in medium bowl and whisk til well mixed. Pour over the cheese. Arrange buttered bread over top. Bake at 350 for 30 to 40 minutes or til golden brown and bubbly. Serves 6 to 8
