Steps:
- 1. Cut cheeses into 1/4 inch squares then in half again Arrange slices on their ends, alternating one piece cheddar then one piece cream cheese. Make sure cheese is very cold before slicing or it may be necessary to spread the cream cheese over the cheddar with a knife.
- 2. Mince garlic and dice pimentos (red peppers), finely chop fresh herbs. Combine herbs, and peppers in a small bowl, add all remaining ingredients, blend well to combine Salt and pepper to taste
- 3. Pour marinade over arranged cheese, cover and refrigerate overnight. There will be a lot of liquid at first but it will absorb into the cheese during the marinating process. Serve with crackers and french bread slices
Tips:
- Choose the right cheese: Not all cheeses are suitable for marinating. Soft, creamy cheeses like Brie or Camembert will become too soft and gooey. Semi-hard cheeses like Gouda or Cheddar are ideal, as they will hold their shape and absorb the marinade flavors well.
- Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs will give your cheese marinade the best flavor. If you can't find fresh herbs, you can use dried herbs, but be sure to use only half the amount, as they are more concentrated.
- Let the cheese marinate for at least 4 hours, or overnight: The longer the cheese marinates, the more time it will have to absorb the flavors of the marinade. If you are short on time, you can marinate the cheese for as little as 2 hours, but the flavor will be less intense.
- Serve the cheese at room temperature: This will allow the flavors of the marinade to fully develop. You can serve the cheese with crackers, bread, fruit, or nuts.
Conclusion:
Herb-marinated cheese is a delicious and easy appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. With a variety of herbs and spices to choose from, you can create a marinade that will perfectly complement your favorite cheese. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy snack or appetizer, try making herb-marinated cheese. Your taste buds will thank you!
