Time 30m

Yield 10-12 rolls, 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 cup herman starter, twice-fed
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup light brown sugar (I use dark brown)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup pecans (or other nuts)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 and grease a pie or round cake pan.
  • Mix together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, 1/4 c brown sugar, oil, & Herman.
  • Place on floured surface and knead lightly.
  • Shape into rolls and place in greased pie or cake pan.
  • Stir together the other 1/4 c brown sugar, cinnamon, butter, and nuts to make the topping. Sprinkle over rolls. Bake 15-20 minutes or until brown.

Tips:

  • Activate the yeast properly: Before starting the dough, make sure to activate the yeast according to the instructions on the package. This will ensure that the yeast is alive and active, which is essential for a successful rise of the dough.
  • Use warm milk or water: Lukewarm liquid helps to activate the yeast and encourages it to grow and multiply. Make sure the liquid is not too hot, as this can kill the yeast.
  • Knead the dough thoroughly: Kneading the dough develops the gluten, which gives the rolls their structure and elasticity. Knead the dough for at least 5-7 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place: After kneading, place the dough in a warm, draft-free place to rise. This will allow the yeast to multiply and the dough to double in size.
  • Shape the rolls carefully: Once the dough has risen, shape the rolls into your desired shape. Be gentle with the dough to avoid degassing it.
  • Bake the rolls until golden brown: Bake the rolls in a preheated oven until they are golden brown on top. This will ensure that the rolls are cooked through and have a slightly crispy crust.

Conclusion:

Herman Dinner Rolls are a classic and versatile bread recipe that can be enjoyed with a variety of meals. They are soft, fluffy, and have a slightly sweet flavor. With careful attention to detail and a little practice, you can easily master this recipe and create delicious homemade dinner rolls that will impress your family and friends.
