CRANBERRY-ORANGE HOLIDAY PUNCH

Categories     beverage

Time 21h25m

Yield about 9 cups

Number Of Ingredients 12

12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
20 thyme sprigs
8 fresh bay leaves
2 cups granulated sugar
1 tablespoon whole allspice
1 tablespoon whole cloves
10 thyme sprigs
2 cinnamon sticks
4 cups unsweetened cranberry juice
1 1/2 cups orange vodka
Half a 750-milliliter bottle prosecco
6 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries

Steps:

  • For the Bundt ice ring: Pour 1 inch of water into the bottom of a 12-cup Bundt pan. Add a quarter of the cranberries, 5 thyme sprigs and 2 bay leaves and evenly spread the ingredients around the Bundt pan--this will be the top of the ice cube. Place in the freezer to set for at least 4 hours.
  • For the next layer, add enough water to fill halfway up the Bundt pan, then add the same quantity of ingredients as the first layer. Place in freezer for at least 4 more hours. Continue to make 2 more layers and freeze in the same manner, freezing each layer at least 4 hours before adding on the next. The final layer should freeze 8 hours or up to overnight before being used.
  • Turn the Bundt pan onto a baking sheet and hold under running hot water until the Bundt ice ring releases onto the baking sheet, 5 to 10 seconds. Add to a punch bowl when ready to serve.
  • For the spiced-thyme simple syrup: Combine the sugar with 2 cups water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat and add the allspice, cloves, thyme and cinnamon sticks. Let steep while it comes to room temperature, 1 hour. Strain and refrigerate until ready to use.
  • For the punch: Stir together the cranberry juice, vodka and 2 cups spiced-thyme simple syrup (save the remainder for another use). Pour over the Bundt ice ring in the punch bowl and top with prosecco and cranberries for garnish. Serve immediately.

CRANBERRY HOLIDAY PUNCH

Cranberry Holiday Punch image

This delicious punch really PACKS a punch! It's a nice alternative to the traditional glogg on Christmas. This recipe is from the Quill & Quilt B&B in Cannon Falls, MN.

Provided by Hey Jude

Categories     Punch Beverage

Time 35m

Yield 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (6 ounce) can frozen cranberry juice concentrate
1 1/3 cups water
3 tablespoons honey
8 inches cinnamon sticks
6 whole cloves
4 cardamom pods, opened
2 cups dry red wine
1 cup cranberry liqueur
additional small cinnamon stick

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, heat juice concentrate, water, honey, cinnamon stick, cloves and cardamom pods until mixture boils.
  • Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Stir in wine and liqueur; heat thoroughly but do not boil.
  • Serve hot in mugs with a small stick of cinnamon.

Tips:

  • Prep ahead: For a stress-free holiday gathering, make the cranberry punch up to 24 hours in advance. Just be sure to keep it chilled until ready to serve.
  • Adjust the sweetness: If you prefer a less sweet punch, reduce the amount of sugar or honey. You can also add more cranberry juice or sparkling water to taste.
  • Make it a mocktail: For a non-alcoholic version of the punch, omit the vodka or rum. You can also use sparkling cider or ginger ale instead of sparkling wine.
  • Garnish for the occasion: Dress up the punch with festive garnishes such as cranberries, rosemary sprigs, or citrus slices.
  • Serve in a punch bowl: For a special touch, serve the punch in a large punch bowl with a ladle. This will make it easy for guests to help themselves.

Conclusion:

A refreshing and festive holiday cranberry punch is an excellent way to celebrate the season. Whether you prefer a classic recipe or a modern twist, there's a cranberry punch recipe to suit every taste. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and memorable drink that will be enjoyed by all your guests.
