HOMEMADE "BREWED" COFFEE KAHLUA

Homemade

My husband's family introduced me to this Kahlua recipe when we were first married and we have enjoyed it for many years during holidays and special occasions. Enjoy!

Categories     Hot Drinks

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 1/2 c strong freshly brewed coffee
4 c sugar
2 1/4 c good quality vodka
1 Tbsp cocoa powder
1 vanilla bean
OPTIONAL:
1 cinnamon stick
1 Tbsp orange peel

Steps:

  • 1. Brew a pot of strong, good quality coffee to get that rich Kahlua flavor. it should be strong because a weak coffee won't transport the flavors into the final product. Once brewed, prepare to use the coffee immediately.
  • 2. Once the pot is done, transfer it over to a large bowl. Add 4 cups of sugar and 1 Tablespoon of cocoa powder to the fresh, hot coffee and stir until dissolved.
  • 3. Let the coffee mixture cool to room temperature. Once the sugar and cocoa has dissolved and the coffee has cooled, add the vodka stirring to combine. Pour the mixture into bottles.
  • 4. Cut the vanilla bean into 3rds and drop one piece into each bottle. Put cap on. Your Kahlua is made. At this point you may add a cinnamon stick or orange peel if you like. This will give it a more dynamic flavor.
  • 5. Store in a cool, dry place for 2-3 weeks. The vanilla needs this much time to infuse and the flavors need to settle into the coffee to give it that rich, liqueur flavor.
  • 6. Once the time is up, strain it beforehand and then rebottle. Label and store in basement, cellar, or inside a closed box.

HOMEMADE KAHLUA

Homemade Kahlua image

I was a beautician for years and one of my customers was a school principal. One day she came in and announced she was going on a cruise and was taking some homemade Kahlua with her, and she brought me a sample. Wow!! It tasted just like the real stuff. I couldn't wait for her to get back so I could make some more. I make a...

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 c sugar
3 1/2 c water
2 oz instant cofee
1 vanilla bean or 2 tbs of real vanilla or to taste
1 l 100 proof vodka (if you are brave) liter bottle
HOMEMADE KAHLUA

Steps:

  • 1. Bring the water to a boil and add the sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
  • 2. Add 2 oz of instant coffee, stir well and let cool.
  • 3. When the pan is cool to touch then add the vodka... all of it to the sugar, water, and coffee mixture.
  • 4. Split one vanilla bean in half length wise and add to the mixture.
  • 5. Bottle the Kahlua up and let it sit for a week. I leave the vanilla bean in the bottle, and it doesn't go bad. You can add some Vanilla Flavored International coffee creamer to it and a splash of vodka and it makes a wonderful white russian.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality coffee. The quality of your coffee beans will have a big impact on the flavor of your Kahlua. Choose a dark roast coffee with a rich, full-bodied flavor.
  • Grind your coffee beans finely. This will help to extract the most flavor from the coffee.
  • Use fresh vanilla beans. Vanilla beans are the best way to get a rich, authentic vanilla flavor in your Kahlua. If you don't have fresh vanilla beans, you can use vanilla extract, but it won't be as flavorful.
  • Let your Kahlua age for at least two weeks. This will allow the flavors to meld and develop. The longer you age your Kahlua, the better it will taste.
  • Store your Kahlua in a cool, dark place. Kahlua can be stored for up to two years, but it is best to use it within a year.

Conclusion:

Kahlua is a delicious and versatile liqueur that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. It can be sipped neat, on the rocks, or used in cocktails and desserts. With its rich, coffee flavor and hints of vanilla and caramel, Kahlua is a surefire crowd-pleaser. So next time you're looking for a special treat, give homemade Kahlua a try. You won't be disappointed!
