DAD'S BASIC MOIST PORK ROAST

Dad's Basic Moist Pork Roast image

This is the best and most basic way to ensure a juicy, perfectly-cooked pork roast every time. This recipe really requires a good thermometer -- either a $10 instant-read type or, even better, the type that pierces the meat and stays in place while connected to an outside-the-oven monitor. If you can swing that, then try your favorite marinade or rub on this recipe. Use your imagination on the rubs and marinades, but ensure you bring your roast directly from the fridge to the roasting pan -- Dad's recipe works best that way.

Tips for Making Marinated Pork Roast:

  • Choose a flavorful marinade: The marinade is what gives the pork roast its flavor, so choose one that you enjoy. There are many different marinade recipes available, so experiment until you find one that you like.
  • Marinate the pork for at least 2 hours, but overnight is best: The longer the pork marinates, the more flavorful it will be. If you don't have time to marinate the pork for long, at least let it marinate for 2 hours.
  • Cook the pork roast over low heat: Pork roast is a tough cut of meat, so it needs to be cooked slowly over low heat. This will help to tenderize the meat and make it fall-apart tender.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the pork roast is cooked through: The internal temperature of the pork roast should reach 145 degrees Fahrenheit before it is safe to eat. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the roast before serving.
  • Let the pork roast rest before slicing: Once the pork roast is cooked, let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, making it more tender and flavorful.
