2 pounds large sea scallops, rinsed and drained
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon low sodium seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay® 30% Less Sodium Seasoning)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon margarine
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons honey
1 shallot, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat an oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking dish.
  • Season scallops with salt, pepper, and low sodium seafood seasoning in a bowl. Place scallops in prepared baking dish and sprinkle with olive oil and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice.
  • Bake in preheated oven until scallops are hot and beginning to turn opaque, about 15 minutes.

  • Return scallops to oven and continue baking until scallops are opaque and sauce has formed a glaze over the scallops, 15 to 20 minutes.

Sweet honey, salt tamari, tangy rice wine vinegar and hot red pepper flakes,if desired, combine to make a delectable glaze for scallops. Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/2 Tbsp gluten-free tamari-a rich japanese soy sauce
1 1/2 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp dijon mustard
1/2 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes, optional
1 lb large sea scallops, tough muscles removed from the sides of each
1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil,in dark bottle, divided
1 tsp toasted sesame seeds

Steps:

  • 1. In a small bowl, whisk together the first 5 ingredients; set aside.
  • 2. Pat scallops dry with paper towels then heat 1 Tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook scallops in a single layer, flipping once, until golden brown and just cooked through, about 2 minutes per side. (work in batches, if necessary, adding the remaining 1 Tablespoon oil when needed).
  • 3. Transfer scallops to a large plate as done. Reduce heat to medium-low and allow skillet to cool off a bit, then carefully add tamari honey mixture to skillet and simmer briefly until reduced to a glaze. Return scallops to skillet and toss well to cost evenly. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality scallops. Fresh scallops should have a sweet, briny smell and be firm to the touch. Avoid scallops that are slimy or have a strong odor.
  • Pat the scallops dry before cooking. This will help them to sear evenly and prevent them from steaming.
  • Season the scallops generously. Scallops have a mild flavor, so it's important to season them well. Use a combination of salt, pepper, and your favorite herbs and spices.
  • Cook the scallops over high heat. This will help them to sear quickly and prevent them from overcooking.
  • Do not overcrowd the scallops in the pan. If the scallops are too crowded, they will not cook evenly.
  • Cook the scallops until they are just cooked through. Scallops are very delicate and can easily overcook. Cook them for just a few minutes per side, or until they are opaque and firm.
  • Serve the scallops immediately. Scallops are best served immediately after they are cooked. You can garnish them with fresh herbs or a squeeze of lemon juice.

Conclusion:

Honey glazed scallops are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. They are perfect for a special occasion or a weeknight meal. With their sweet and savory flavor, honey glazed scallops are sure to please everyone at the table.
