  • Cook the Rice Perfectly: The rice is the foundation of jambalaya, so it's important to cook it perfectly. Use a heavy-bottomed pot and follow the package directions carefully. Be sure to rinse the rice before cooking to remove any excess starch.
  • Sauté the Vegetables: Sautéing the vegetables before adding them to the jambalaya helps to develop their flavor and add depth to the dish. Be sure to cook the vegetables until they're tender-crisp, but not mushy.
  • Use a Variety of Spices: Jambalaya is all about the spices! Be sure to use a good mix of Cajun and Creole spices, such as paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, and thyme. You can also add a bit of heat with some crushed red pepper flakes or chili powder.
  • Simmer the Jambalaya: Once all of the ingredients are added to the pot, bring the jambalaya to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld and the rice to absorb the broth.
