Yield Serves 14

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 qt cranberry juice cocktail
3/4 cup sugar
3 (3 1/2-inch) cinnamon sticks
4 whole star anise
1 (3-inch) piece gingerroot, peeled and thinly sliced
2 cups amber or dark rum

Steps:

  • Bring cranberry juice, sugar, spices, and ginger to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved, then simmer, covered, 10 minutes. Stir in rum and serve hot.

Tips:

  • Use fresh cranberries for the best flavor. Frozen cranberries can also be used, but they will not have as much flavor.
  • If you don't have fresh ginger, you can use 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger.
  • You can adjust the amount of sugar to taste. If you like your toddy less sweet, use less sugar.
  • If you don't have any cloves, you can omit them. However, they add a nice flavor to the toddy.
  • Be careful not to boil the toddy. Boiling will remove the alcohol from the whiskey.
  • Serve the toddy hot and garnish with a cinnamon stick or a slice of orange.

Conclusion:

A hot cranberry toddy is a delicious and warming drink that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is easy to make and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. So next time you are feeling under the weather, try a hot cranberry toddy. You won't be disappointed!
