Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Use russet potatoes for the best Idaho fries. They have a high starch content, which makes them fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside.
  • Cut the potatoes into even strips: This will help them cook evenly. Use a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer to get the best results.
  • Soak the potatoes in water: This will help to remove excess starch and prevent the fries from sticking together.
  • Dry the potatoes thoroughly: This will help them crisp up in the oil.
  • Use a high-quality oil: Use an oil with a high smoke point, such as vegetable oil, canola oil, or peanut oil.
  • Heat the oil to the right temperature: The oil should be between 325°F and 350°F. Use a thermometer to check the temperature.
  • Fry the potatoes in batches: Don't overcrowd the pan, or the fries will not cook evenly.
  • Cook the potatoes until they are golden brown: This will take about 3-4 minutes.
  • Drain the potatoes on paper towels: This will help to remove excess oil.
  • Season the potatoes with salt and pepper, or your favorite seasonings: Serve the fries immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Conclusion:

Idaho fries are a delicious and versatile side dish that can be served with a variety of meals. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking.
