Straight out of the freezer and better than fast food fries without the guilt of deep-frying. Feel free to use your preferred frozen French fry cut but keep in mind that steak-cut or crinkle will take a couple minutes longer.

Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are the best choice for French fries because they are low in moisture and have a high starch content, which results in crispy fries.
  • Cut the potatoes evenly: This will ensure that the fries cook evenly. Use a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer to cut the potatoes into 1/4-inch thick strips.
  • Soak the potatoes in water: This will help to remove excess starch from the potatoes, which will also help to make them crispy. Soak the potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  • Dry the potatoes thoroughly: Before frying the potatoes, make sure they are completely dry. This will help to prevent them from sticking together and will also help them to crisp up.
  • Use a high-quality oil: Use an oil with a high smoke point, such as vegetable oil, canola oil, or peanut oil. This will help to prevent the oil from burning and will also help the fries to cook evenly.
  • Fry the potatoes in batches: Don't overcrowd the pan with potatoes, or they will not cook evenly. Fry the potatoes in batches, using a large pot or Dutch oven.
  • Don't stir the potatoes too much: Stirring the potatoes too much will prevent them from getting crispy. Gently shake the pan or pot every few minutes to ensure that the potatoes are cooking evenly.
  • Cook the potatoes until they are golden brown: The fries are done cooking when they are golden brown and crispy. This will usually take about 3-5 minutes per batch.
  • Season the fries immediately: As soon as the fries are done cooking, season them with salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings. This will help the seasonings to stick to the fries.

Conclusion:

Making frozen French fries at home is easy and affordable. With a few simple steps, you can create delicious, crispy fries that are perfect for any occasion. Be sure to choose the right potatoes, cut them evenly, soak them in water, and dry them thoroughly before frying. Use a high-quality oil and fry the potatoes in batches, without stirring them too much. Cook the potatoes until they are golden brown and crispy, and then season them immediately. With these tips, you can make frozen French fries that are just as good as, if not better than, the ones you buy at the store.
